Surveillance Camera Poles – What Are the Basics
If you are in the market to buy a camera pole so you can mount your camera to it... you have a few options:
These camera poles come in square or round, steel or aluminum. Most common camera poles for highways are mounted on brushed round aluminum poles. In the cities however painted square steel poles are prefered due to their robustness. Also they can be painted to match the surrounding architecture.
One type of camera pole that is in demand lately is hinged camera pole. These are poles that can be easily tilted so the camera can be maintained without requiring a lift truck. After undooing a couple of tamper resistant bolts the pole can be tilted from it’s base. Once the camera is maintained the pole can go back up again with ease and re-mounted with the same hardware.
Most common size camera poles are 4” square poles 10’ to 25’ high. The most common gauge is 11 and the most common color is bronze.
Mounting options for the cameras vary by camera and requirements of the architect/designer or the contractor.
In the United States there are wind requirements for such poles. This impacts the vibration on the camera and the requirements change from State to State. For example States like Florida where there is a lot of wind exposure require higher gauge poles so the vibrations don’t damage the camera. In those States where winds are not prevelent as much the requirements are a bit more relaxed. One can expect to pay more for poles in States where the wind factors are high as more steel/aluminum is used for higher gauge pole materials.
